439 – Hut Equipment – Handing Over of –

            It is understood that when the Brigade leaves Alnwick the Depot Company of each Battalion will remain at Alnwick.

Each Officer Commanding a Battalion will arrange to hand over to the Officer Commanding his Depot Company on the day of departure the hut equipment on charge, together with correct lists so as to avoid any misunderstandings on this subject at a later date.

440 – Recruiting Meetings – Details of –

            Recruiting meetings will be held as stated below.  Pipe bands will be detailed in rotation to attend these meetings.  One Officer and 2 Recruiting Sergeants will accompany the band.  These parties will proceed by train on the morning of the day of the meeting, and the bands will play in the afternoon and evening, and will return the following morning to Alnwick.

The time of arrival of the party should in each case be telegraphed the day before the meeting to Mr. W. Simpson, Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, 2, Market Place, Morpeth, who will attend each meeting and will meet the train.

Officers Commanding Units are authorized to arrange for the catering of these parties at the 1s. 9d. per head per diem.

PASSES – OFFICERS ON RECONNAISSANCE AND OTHER DUTIES –

            Generals and other Officers Commanding formations, when sending Officers under their Command on reconnaissance duties in connection with Camps, or other duties which necessitates the obtaining of information from Civilian Officials, will furnish such Officers with a written letter of authority, as proof of their bona-fides.  Officers thus employed in any locality should, as a rule, report themselves to the Headquarters of any Station in which it is necessary to make enquiries.

Trobridge 20^th (S) Bn Northumberland Fusiliers (1^st Tyneside Scottish) every Tuesday and Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. in large marquee pitched opposite to the Camp of the 23^rd (S) Bn. Northumberland Fusiliers (4^th Tyneside Scottish).

Officers Commanding Battalions will be good enough to arrange so that the largest number of Officers possible avail themselves of these lectures.

Northern Command Order No.1059.

CONVEYANCE OF BAGGAGE AND STORES –

            Avoidable inconvenience and difficulty often arises owing to excessive demands being made for the conveyance of Baggage and Stores on the move of Units from one Station to another; sometimes owing to greater quantities having to be transported than existing circumstances justify, at other times on account of requisitions for carriage being put forward for weights far above those of the Baggage, etc., to be conveyed.

The scales governing the maximum amounts of Baggage and Regimental Stores carried at the public expense in peace time, are shown in the Allowance Regulations, but these should not be considered as applicable to the present war conditions.  The weight of Baggage and Stores to be necessarily taken with a Unit on move of station should be ascertained so far as possible by actual weighing.  The weight of kits should be carefully averaged and should not include packs.

In sending in returns showing the weights to be conveyed, Officers Commanding should give particulars under various headings, such as Officers’ kits, Quartermasters’ Stores, Offices, etc.
