465 Socks Indents for –

            It has come to notice of the General Officer Commanding that in certain instances the want of serviceable socks has militated against marching – Officers Commanding Battalions will take immediate steps to see that the correct allowance of three pairs of sound socks is in the possession of every man and will arrange for this supply being maintained.

Indents to complete should be sent in at once to Ordnance Officer, Clothing Depot, Carlton Street Store, York.

466 Hutments – Taking over of by R.E.

            The hutments at Alnwick have now been taken over by the War Department – and will in future be maintained by the Royal Engineers.

Commanding Officers will in future refer all matters relating to Engineer Services to the Divisional Officer, R.E., 13, Belle Grove Terrace, Newcastle-on-Tyne.

            The following scale of expenditure of .22inch miniature ammunition per man of 30th to 35th Divisions IV New Army, also Divisions of V New Army as they are completed is authorised:-

Royal Engineers (Field Companies and Signal Units)  40 rounds per month.

Royal Artillery                                                                       25 rounds per month.

Infantry                                                                                  50 rounds per month.

Army Service Corps                                                            25 rounds per month

462 Divisional Cyclist Company Formation of

            A Cyclist Company is being formed for the 34th Division, to which the 102nd Brigade belongs.  The following volunteers are required from each Battalion:-

463 Equipment or Clothing Indents for

            Officers Commanding Units are reminded that “hasteners” should be forwarded to the Chief Ordnance Officer, York, or to Ordnance Officer, Clothing Depot, Carlton Street Store, York, as the case may be, for articles of equipment or clothing required to complete, in order that the Battalions may be completed as far as possible prior to the move of the Brigade to Ripon.

Diary of 2/4th Battalion The Border Regiment

1915

1st & 2nd June 1915.  The Battalion tactical schemes (an attack on the ridge beyond Bund Bridge, and the defence of Holkar Bridge) were carried out under the supervision of Brigadier-General H.T. Brooking, C.B.

19th June 1915.  One officer and 24 other ranks proceeded from Kirkee to Bombay, escorting explosives for Mesopotamia and East Africa.

22nd June 1915.  Captain M.G. Fisher, 1 officer and 50 other ranks, left Poona to escort 1,200 Turkish prisoners of war from Mesopotamia by sea from Bombay to Rangoon, proceeding to the Prisoners of War Camp at Thyetmyo.  After the completion of this duty the escort proceeded to Singapore, brought the Indian mutineers from Singapore to Calcutta, and thence to Madras, returning by rail tp Poona on the 24th July.

            The District Court Martial directed to assemble in Brigade Order 435 of 20th June, 1915, of which Major C.J. H. Gardner, 21st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (2nd  Tyneside Scottish) was President, is hereby dissolved.

            The detail of Officers as mentioned below will assemble at the Court-Martial Room, The Haven, North Demesne, Alnwick, on the 30th June, 1915, at 10 a.m., for the purpose of trying by District Court-Martial the accused persons named in the margin:-

            The attention of Officers Commanding Units is drawn to Paragraph 4 of Army Order 486, 1914.  This Army Order should be borne in mind by Commanding Officers in forwarding the names of Officers for promotion.
